Burg Oberkapfenberg

Burg Oberkapfenberg is a castle on a hill featuring Renaissance elements, thick walls, several towers, and a courtyard with a chapel inside. The buildings are made of stone and show the typical layout of a medieval fortress.

The castle was founded in 1173 by the Herren von Kapfenberg family and received a Renaissance renovation in the mid-1500s. These changes transformed it into a modern fortress of that era.

The collection inside displays medieval weapons and armor that show how people fought and lived in earlier times. You can walk through rooms where nobles and soldiers once stayed.

The castle is open during the day and visitors can either explore the rooms themselves or join a guided tour. It helps to wear comfortable shoes since you will need to climb up hills and stairs.

The castle houses a falconry center where visitors can watch flying displays with eagles, falcons, and other birds of prey. These live demonstrations show how hunting worked during medieval times.
