Kapfenberg

Kapfenberg is a municipality situated in the Mürz valley amid Alpine surroundings, with the landscape shaped by mountains on both sides. The settlement covers 82 square kilometers at approximately 500 meters elevation within a mountainous region.

The municipality received formal privileges during the Middle Ages that allowed it to govern itself and operate independently from surrounding rural areas. This status shaped its development into a distinct settlement with its own local authority.

Every June, the local castle transforms into a venue for a medieval festival featuring traditional performances and historical reenactments. This annual event draws visitors interested in experiencing history through interactive demonstrations.
