Burg Stein, Reichersberg, Austrian castle
Burg Stein was a hilltop castle built on the Minaberg, situated about 2 kilometers downstream from Reichersberg in Upper Austria. The structure featured thick stone walls designed to watch over the river valley and control the important trade routes below.
The castle was first recorded in 1085 when built by Albuin I, a relative of the monastery's founder. In December 1153, Duke Heinrich II conquered and destroyed it following disputes over land ownership between the castle lords and the church.
The name reflects the local noble family who built and controlled this stronghold during the medieval period. Standing at this location, visitors can sense how castles served as centers of power and territorial authority in the region.
The ruins sit on the Minaberg and are easily reached via marked walking trails. The site is open and accessible at any time, allowing visitors to walk around and examine the remains at their own pace.
