Sancta Maria in Paradyso

The remains of Sancta Maria in Paradyso include sections of a three-bay brick vault, a west portal, and remnants of a rectangular outbuilding in the Wienerwald region.

Gabriel von Verona established this Franciscan monastery around 1440 through Habsburg donations, but Ottoman forces destroyed it in 1529, resulting in 22 monks' deaths.

The monastery church integrated late Gothic architectural elements and featured a sandstone western gallery with octagonal column bases and patterned brick flooring.

The site remains accessible for archaeological studies, with recent excavations in 2013 revealing new information about the building's construction phases and original layout.

Archaeological findings disproved previous theories about the choir's structure, indicating the presence of a semicircular apse added during later construction periods.
