Schlenken

Schlenken is a mountain rising to about 1600 meters above sea level near Bad Vigaun, featuring steep rock faces mixed with gentler pastoral slopes. The varied terrain creates different routes through forested areas and open mountain pastures.

This mountain is part of the western Osterhorn group in the Salzkammergut range and contains ancient limestone formations from the Upper Jurassic period. These geological features have shaped the regional landscape for millions of years.

The summit cross here has served as a meeting point and symbol for mountaineers and hikers exploring the region for generations.

The best starting point is the Lasserbauer area, which has parking and clearly marked trails for visitors. These routes move through forested sections before opening onto mountain pastures as you climb higher.

Beneath the mountain lies a network of cave systems including Hennerloch, Lengfeldkeller, and Eisenloch featuring narrow passages and underground lakes. These hidden chambers make the area of interest to cave explorers.
