Salzachbrücke

The Salzachbrücke is a steel truss bridge that spans the Salzach River between Laufen and Oberndorf. The structure measures approximately 166 meters and features distinctive lattice beam elements typical of early 1900s engineering.

The bridge was completed in 1903 and created a permanent connection across the Salzach between Bavaria and Austria. This construction occurred during a period when cross-border infrastructure between the two regions became increasingly important.

The bridge displays two different coats of arms: the Bavarian emblem on one side and the Austrian symbol on the other. These crests reflect that the structure links two countries and crosses an international border.

Pedestrians and cyclists use this bridge regularly as a border crossing, with several marked cycling routes passing through the surrounding area. The crossing is straightforward and the path is easy to navigate.

The structure incorporates engineering elements that meet both German and Austrian standards from 1903, visible in its construction and details. This dual approach was necessary because two countries were involved in its planning and construction.
