Große Arnspitze, Mountain summit in Scharnitz, Germany.
The Große Arnspitze peak rises to 2,196 meters, forming a prominent ridge that separates the Leutasch and Scharnitz valleys with its steep rocky slopes.
The mountain slopes contain ruins of Porta Claudia, a fortress built between 1632 and 1634 during the Thirty Years' War to protect the border between Bavaria and Tyrol.
The mountain's French Trail, known as Franzosensteig, received its name after Napoleon's forces used a hidden path revealed by local hunters in 1805.
The ascent from Scharnitz Parking P1 covers 9 kilometers with 1,247 meters elevation gain, requiring approximately seven and a half hours to complete.
The self-sustaining Arnspitzhut, maintained by the German Alpine Club, provides year-round shelter beneath the summit for mountaineers crossing the border region.
