Schloss Hofen

Schloss Hofen is a Renaissance estate in Lochau overlooking Lake Constance, with white walls, distinctive towers, and modern architectural features woven into its historical design. The building comprises several interconnected wings arranged around a central courtyard.

The estate took shape around 1600 under the influence of the Counts of Raitenau, who managed and expanded it from 1467 to 1658. The complex evolved from early fortified structures into a representational residential castle.

The name comes from a family that long occupied this land. Today, people use the rooms for gatherings and learning events, giving the building an active role in the community.

The site now operates as an educational institute and seminar hotel with guest accommodations and meeting spaces. Visitors can view the building from the shoreline or attend organized events to explore the interior.

During World War I, the castle shifted from brewery operations into a reserve hospital that treated wounded soldiers. This period shaped the estate profoundly and influenced its later transformation into an educational center.
