Schieferstein

Schieferstein is a summit in the Oberösterreichische Voralpen range rising to 1,206 meters above sea level. The mountain features mixed terrain with forested slopes and rocky sections that create varied conditions across different climbing routes.

Schieferstein took its current form through geological processes during Alpine mountain building that shaped the limestone structure. This geological history created the rugged terrain that defines the mountain range today.

The mountain path incorporates the legend of the Stone Hunter, which tells the story of a hunting assistant, a white stag, and local traditions.

Hiking here requires sturdy footwear and care on exposed rock sections, as the trail includes steep passages and technical terrain. Weather conditions affect safety significantly, especially on wet stone where traction becomes limited.

The summit reveals distant views toward the Danube and the Gesäuse mountains on clear days, offering a rare perspective from this angle. A striking ladder section on the final ridge makes this ascent memorable and stands out from typical mountain routes.
