Kreuzeckbahn, Funicular railway in Reißeck, Austria

The Kreuzeckbahn is a cable car that climbs from Kolbnitz valley to Mount Kreuzeck at approximately 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) elevation. The ride ascends steep alpine slopes and provides views of the surrounding mountain landscape during the journey.

The Kreuzeckbahn was built as a material transport line for the construction of the pressure pipelines of the Reißeck-Kreuzeck power plant group, whose water flows down to the Kolbnitz plant in the valley. Its valley station stands at 605 m in Kolbnitz in the Mölltal; the mountain station lies near the Roßwiese reservoir at 1211 m. The parallel Reißeckbahn, a larger funicular on the opposite valley side, was shut down in 2016.

The funicular was built to carry materials for the pressure pipelines of the Reißeck-Kreuzeck power group, which discharge into the Kolbnitz plant in the valley. Today it also serves hikers heading for the Roßwiese reservoir and routes on the Kreuzeck.

The cable car operates year-round, providing access to ski slopes in winter and hiking trails in summer. The ride takes about 15 minutes and connects to the Roßwiese reservoir station.
