Kreuzeckbahn, Funicular railway in Reißeck, Austria
The Kreuzeckbahn is a cable car that climbs from Kolbnitz valley to Mount Kreuzeck at approximately 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) elevation. The ride ascends steep alpine slopes and provides views of the surrounding mountain landscape during the journey.
The cable car was built to provide access to a mountain area once known for gold and silver mining operations. Today it connects modern transport with the region's alpine heritage.
The funicular connects travelers to numerous alpine walking paths where local traditions of mountain hiking and nature appreciation continue through generations.
The cable car operates year-round, providing access to ski slopes in winter and hiking trails in summer. The ride takes about 15 minutes and connects to the Roßwiese reservoir station.
The cable car is linked to two local hydroelectric plants that generate power from mountain water sources. These facilities use water from surrounding reservoirs to produce electricity.
