The castle displays a tower and architectural elements that represent the design principles of regional noble residences from the 18th century.

Between 1727 and 1734, Abbot Gregor I Plaichshirn ordered the construction of the current castle on the secure location of a farmhouse.

The castle received heritage status as a Denkmalgeschütztes Objekt, marking its position in Austria's architectural preservation program.
