Schloss Kremsegg, Medieval castle in Kremsmünster, Austria

The castle consists of a two-story quadrangular structure with arcades, connected to a cross building and approached by a tree-lined avenue.

The first documented mention of the castle dates to 1235, when the noble Rot family constructed a residential estate on a hill above the Krems River.

Between 1996 and 2018, the castle housed a museum containing 1,200 brass instruments from trumpeter Franz Xaver Streitwieser's collection and numerous pianos.

Visitors need to arrange appointments in advance to access the castle, with travel options including the A1 highway from Vienna or the Pyhrnbahn railway from Linz.

In 1627, Abbot Anton Wolfradt of Kremsmünster Abbey purchased the castle, marking this acquisition with a Latin inscription above the main portal.
