Nestroyhof

Nestroyhof is an Art Nouveau apartment building with a theatre space located in Vienna's Leopoldstadt district. The structure features ornate facade decoration typical of the era and houses approximately 250 theatre seats.

Architect Oskar Marmorek designed the building in 1899 as a multi-purpose project for his father-in-law Julius Schwarz. The house combined residential spaces with entertainment facilities from the start, reflecting Vienna's thriving cultural period.

The name comes from the square itself, which honors Austrian playwright Johann Nestroy. The theatre continues to host regular performances and serves as a gathering spot in this neighborhood.

The location is near Nestroyplatz metro station on the U1 line, making it easy to reach by public transport. The theatre is accessible through standard building entrances and connects well with the surrounding neighborhood.

The theatre was rediscovered in 2003 after a ceiling removal revealed the hidden performance space that had been concealed for decades. This recovery brought an almost forgotten venue back into the cultural life of the district.
