Lunzer See, Natural lake in Lunz am See, Austria.
Lunzer See is a natural lake in Lunz am See surrounded by the Mostviertler mountains at an elevation of 608 meters (1,995 feet). The water appears emerald-green and the lake contains a public bathing area called Seebad, where visitors find diving platforms, sunbathing spaces, and boat rental stations.
The lake was designated as a natural monument in Lower Austria to protect its environmental value for the region. This recognition reflects its long-standing importance as a key feature of the Ybbstal landscape.
The lakeside stage serves as a daytime gathering spot for swimmers and sunbathers, then transforms into a concert venue for evening performances during the warmer months. Locals and visitors use these spaces throughout summer to celebrate regional festivals and music events together.
Visitors can explore the lake by renting rowing boats, pedal boats, or electric boats from stations near the bathing area. The Seebad provides changing facilities, showers, and designated zones for different activities, making it easy for families and groups to spend a full day here.
The lake serves as the starting point for a Three-Lakes hiking route that connects it with two other water bodies at higher elevations in the Ybbstal Alps. Hikers on this trail experience dramatically different mountain views and forest settings as they move between the three lakes.
