Millennium-Express, Alpine aerial lift in Hermagor-Pressegger See, Austria
Millennium-Express is an aerial cable system in the Austrian Alps that connects three sections across 6001 meters of continuous line. The installation spans a vertical rise of 1309 meters from the lower base station to the upper terminals.
The system opened in 2000 and brought advanced cable technology to the Carinthian Alps. This modernization made mountain travel faster and more efficient for growing visitor numbers.
The cable system links different elevation zones where visitors can move between seasonal activities without much effort. It represents how central mountain tourism is to the local way of life.
The full journey takes about twenty minutes, and the system can move up to 3600 passengers per hour. The speed of 6 meters per second creates a comfortable pace for enjoying the landscape.
The 6001-meter length ranks this among the longest single continuous cable lifts in the Alpine region. Few visitors realize the entire route passes over open terrain with virtually no intermediate stops.
