Therme Oberlaa, Thermal swimming center in Oberlaa, Vienna, Austria
Therme Oberlaa is a thermal bathing center in the Oberlaa district of Vienna, fed by mineral springs located on site. It offers several indoor and outdoor pools at varying water temperatures, along with a sauna area and wellness facilities.
The site opened in 1974 as part of the International Garden Show held in Oberlaa that year. After a major renovation, it reopened in 2011 under the name Therme Wien, though the original name remains widely used.
The name refers directly to the Oberlaa district of Vienna where the thermal baths sit. The sauna area draws many local visitors who come regularly, treating it less as a tourist attraction and more as part of their weekly routine.
The center sits close to the Oberlaa metro station and is easy to reach by public transit from central Vienna. Bringing your own swimwear and towel is a good idea, as rental options may not always be available.
The two on-site springs produce water with a sulfur content that ranks among the highest of any thermal source in Europe. Regular visitors often notice a faint smell in the water, which they associate with its mineral richness.
