Schloss Auhof

Schloss Auhof is a rectangular three-story château in Perg featuring a 19th-century oriel tower and an exterior chapel dedicated to Saint Bernhard. These architectural elements define the building's appearance and distinguish it from other estates in the region.

Construction began in 1568, but a devastating fire in 1693 nearly destroyed everything at the site. The Baumgartenberg Abbey then undertook its complete reconstruction, fundamentally changing the building's structure.

The name originates from the lords of Au, who controlled the estate until 1420 and shaped the local region. This historical connection to Upper Austria remains visible today in how the building sits within its landscape.

The original old castle structure remains hidden within the Meierhof building complex, integrated into later additions and modifications. This concealed earliest layer is difficult to spot with the naked eye, making the site's construction history a hidden puzzle.
