Viehberg

Viehberg is a mountain summit at 1112 meters elevation in the Mühlviertel region and represents the highest point of the Freiwald mountain range in Upper Austria. The site includes three ski lifts, equipment rentals, and a mountain hut with dining facilities.

The mountain historically served as a natural border landmark connecting communities across the Gratzen Mountains through ancient pathways. This role as a link between settlements shaped the area over centuries.

The Viehberghütte serves local dishes and hosts seasonal gatherings that reflect mountain traditions in the area. Visitors can experience these customs firsthand during their time at the hut.

The site operates ski facilities from December through March, offering equipment rentals and lessons for children from age four onward. Outside the winter season, the area is accessible for hiking and walking.

The Viehberghütte features a modern breakfast room with panoramic windows framing the surrounding landscape and views across the Austrian countryside. This makes early visits particularly rewarding for those seeking alpine vistas.
