Viehberg, Mountain summit in Sandl, Austria
The Viehberg rises 1112 meters above sea level in the Mühlviertel region, marking the highest point of the Freiwald mountain range in Upper Austria.
The mountain has long served as a natural border landmark in the Mühlviertel region, connecting various communities across the Gratzen Mountains through ancient pathways.
Local residents maintain traditional Alpine customs at the Viehberghütte, where regional dishes and seasonal celebrations bring together mountain communities throughout the year.
Three ski lifts operate from December through March, with equipment rentals and a ski school offering instruction for children starting from age four.
The Viehberghütte features a modern breakfast room with panoramic windows that frame the surrounding Austrian landscape while serving regional morning specialties.
