Schreckenspitze

Schreckenspitze is a mountain summit near Eben am Achensee that reaches 2022 meters above sea level. The peak features exposed ridges alternating with grass-covered slopes and rocky outcrops that shape the alpine terrain.

The mountain contains remnants of old stone oil extraction activities, with a preserved wooden hut marking former transportation routes through Bächental valley. These traces reveal how the slopes once served industrial purposes beyond recreation.

Local mountaineers traditionally approach the summit through multiple routes, including the technical path from Achenkirch and the longer southern route via Schleimssattel.

The ascent takes about 4 to 5 hours from the Seealm Achenkirch parking area and requires moderate hiking fitness. Proper mountain boots and weather-resistant clothing are essential, especially when conditions are wet as the terrain becomes slippery.

The summit connects to neighboring Sonntagsspitze through a narrow ridge that demands careful footing and becomes particularly exposed during wet weather. Hikers must navigate this knife-edge carefully to manage the exposure on both sides.
