Plumsjoch is a mountain summit in the Vorkarwendel range that reaches 1,921 meters in elevation. The peak features steep rocky slopes and multiple hiking trails that connect different valleys through the Tyrolean landscape.
The area was crossed by hunters from ancient times who used seasonal routes to reach game in the highlands. These early paths eventually became the foundation for the hiking routes and valley connections used today.
Traditional Tyrolean mountain names like Plumsjoch reflect the regional dialect and geographical features that early settlers observed in their surroundings.
A mountain shelter sits at 1,625 meters (5,330 feet) elevation and offers lodging and meals for hikers in the area. The routes to reach the summit require good stamina and sure footing since sections are rocky and steep.
One side of the mountain shows the drier conditions of the Karwendel Nature Park while the other side experiences wetter air from nearby Achensee. These differences mean you find different plants and wildlife depending on which slope you explore.
