Gamsjoch, Mountain summit in Karwendel Nature Park, Austria
Gamsjoch is a mountain summit in the Karwendel range reaching 2452 meters and consists of three distinct peaks formed in limestone. The summit group sits within Karwendel Nature Park and can be approached from several starting points and trails.
The mountain formed during the Triassic period when marine sediments created the limestone structures of the Northern Limestone Alps. These geological processes shaped the characteristic structure of the Karwendel group over millions of years.
The viewing area on the summit is known locally as Karwendel Kino for its panoramic views of the Hinterautal-Vomper mountain chain. Visitors gather at this spot to take in the surrounding peaks and ridges that frame the landscape.
The ascent begins at Die Eng Alpengasthof and follows routes with sustained climbing over extended walking sections. Hikers should expect changing weather conditions and bring good footwear and plenty of water.
The hiking trail passes through Grosser Ahornboden, a natural plain containing around 2300 ancient sycamore maple trees lining the path. These trees are under nature protection and represent a distinctive feature of the route.
