Schloss Fronburg, Heritage château in Morzg, Austria
Schloss Fronburg is a Baroque castle in Salzburg's Morzg district situated at 429 meters elevation on Hellbrunner Allee. The building features geometric ponds and a central fountain basin in its eastern garden.
The castle was built around 1620 as a smaller structure with a pleasure garden and underwent major renovation in 1670 under Count Johann Josef Kuenburg. This expansion significantly enlarged the building and shaped its present form.
The castle now houses the Carl Orff Institute, part of the Mozarteum University. Students of music use the grounds daily, creating a living artistic presence throughout the estate.
The castle is accessed through a 17th-century wrought-iron gate on the western side, flanked by gatekeeper and gardener cottages. The grounds lie on a popular route and are easy to reach, allowing visitors to view the estate from its perimeter.
The castle's exterior appeared in the 1965 film The Sound of Music, serving as the backdrop for scenes of the Von Trapp family residence. This made the location a memorable filming site for one of Salzburg's most beloved movie adaptations.
