Schloss Goldegg, Medieval castle and folk museum in Goldegg, Austria.

Schloss Goldegg is a multi-story castle with a yellow plastered facade and a western tower with a marble entrance portal, located in the town of Goldegg in Austria. The thick walls and the rows of windows arranged across its levels are typical features of medieval construction.

The castle was built in the 14th century under the Salzburg Archdiocese and first served as a fortification to protect key trade routes. Over time, it was converted into a residence and passed through several different owners and uses.

The castle houses the Pongau Folk Museum, which displays everyday objects and traditional crafts from the Salzburg region. The collection shows how ordinary people lived and worked in this part of Austria over the centuries.

The castle is wheelchair accessible, making it easy to visit for people with limited mobility. It is worth checking opening periods in advance, as the building is mainly open during the advent season around Christmas.

Inside the castle there is a great hall whose walls are covered with 16th-century frescoes, which are among the few surviving examples of secular painting in this part of Austria. These images show everyday scenes and hunting motifs painted directly onto the walls.
