Schloss Haunsperg

Schloss Haunsperg is a four-story stone castle in Oberalm featuring towers on its eastern and western sides topped with curved baroque tent roofs. A striking arcade front with marble columns forms the main entrance area and defines the castle's architectural character.

The castle first appears in written records in 1365 when it belonged to Ekhart Prennär von Haus. Michael von Haunsperg purchased it in 1388, and the property remained in noble hands for centuries, taking the name by which it is known today.

The castle chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua reflects the spiritual role this place held for the surrounding community. The space still serves occasions that bring people together, maintaining its function as a gathering point for important moments.

The castle is located at Hammerstrasse 51 and can be reached directly from the main road through Oberalm. Since the building operates primarily as a hotel and event venue, it is best to arrange a visit in advance to ensure you can see the interior and grounds.

A mechanical tower clock dating to around 1580 is installed in the castle chapel and remains one of the oldest functioning timepieces in Oberalm. Its continued operation demonstrates the technical skill that craftspeople possessed even in that distant era.
