Schloss Hohenbrunn

Schloss Hohenbrunn is a hunting lodge in Sankt Florian with four wings, two stories, and a hipped roof surrounding a central courtyard with decorated loggias. Inside, visitors find collections of lithographs, porcelain pieces, and hunting weapons from different periods.

Master builder Jakob Prandtauer designed this hunting lodge between 1722 and 1732 for Provost Johann Baptist Fodermayr of Sankt Florian Abbey. The building emerged as part of the baroque development of the monastery's lands.

The castle's name comes from a water tower built between 1719 and 1724 that supplied drinking water to the nearby monastery. This structure shaped how locals understood and named the place.

Access to the castle requires wearing appropriate footwear, as the courtyard and interior spaces feature historic flooring. Visitors with reduced mobility should contact ahead for assistance.

The collection of lithographic works by Josef Anton Strassgschwandtner shows rare 19th-century hunting methods with great detail and craftsmanship. These prints are evidence of a bygone era in European hunting culture.
