Schloss Kassegg, Historic castle in Sankt Gallen, Austria
The castle sits at 752 meters elevation in the Gesäuse mountains, featuring a west tower and stone walls integrated from an original farmhouse.
Georg Ritter von Aichinger commissioned the construction of Schloss Kassegg in 1886, incorporating elements from a previous farm called Kahsegger into the south wing.
The castle's architecture shows similarities to King Ludwig II of Bavaria's castles, with reports suggesting involvement from a Munich architect who worked on Neuschwanstein.
The castle now operates as Naturhotel Schloss Kassegg, offering accommodations with mountain views, outdoor activities, and a restaurant serving buffet breakfast.
During Count Czernin's ownership, the castle housed buffalo and antelope trophies from African hunting expeditions, which later became costumes for local festivities.
