Patscherkofelbahn, Cable car system in Innsbruck, Austria
The Patscherkofelbahn is a cable car system in Innsbruck that transports visitors from the valley floor to a mountain station. It climbs nearly 900 meters in elevation, connecting the lower station to the upper terminus on the slopes above the city.
A cable car was first built here in 1962 and served for decades as access to the mountain area. It was replaced in 2017 with a modern system that carries more people per hour up the slope.
The Patscherkofelbahn serves winter sports enthusiasts with multiple slopes and a dedicated snowpark for freestyle activities throughout the season.
The ride takes less than 10 minutes and operates in most weather conditions since the cabins are enclosed. The valley station is easy to reach, and visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there are paths to explore once at the top.
The modern system moves around 450 people per hour using a continuous circulation cable rather than individual cabins. This makes boarding faster and smoother compared to traditional fixed-cabin lifts.
