Waldburgangerhütte, Mountain hut in Prigglitz, Austria
The Waldburgangerhütte sits at 1182 meters elevation in the Gahns region, offering open views across surrounding mountain landscapes and the Vienna Basin. The building operates as a traditional inn with basic facilities for hikers and day visitors.
Built in 1929 as a shelter for dairy farming operations in this mountain region, the structure later received its name from a spelling variant of the original Waldbuchanger. This name refers to the beech forests that characterize the area.
The hut embodies traditional Austrian mountain hospitality, with homemade Schöberl dessert prepared from a family recipe drawing visitors seeking authentic local flavors. This sweet specialty has become a signature reason to stop here.
The facility opens from May through October on weekends and public holidays, accepting only cash payments with no advance booking needed for daytime visits. The route here is a popular hiking trail with varying difficulty levels.
Next to the hut stands the Schöberlwarte observation tower, built in 1981 by Franz Zottel, offering panoramic views across the Vienna Basin. This tower is easily reached from the inn and has become a popular stop for hikers passing through.
