Kurhaus Thalhof is a heritage-protected building located at the valley's end on the slopes of the Rax, surrounded by meadows and forests. The renovated structure contains multiple levels with individual apartments available for overnight stays.

First recorded as a country estate in 1652, the building expanded into a grand hotel by 1890. It received visits from Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth during their mountain hunting expeditions.

Arthur Schnitzler stayed at the Thalhof repeatedly and was close to the owner Olga Waissnix from 1886 until her death in 1897. From the 1980s to the 2010s Helga David used the house in summer for readings and theatre, including Schnitzler performances. Since July 2019 the building has served as an apartment house.

The building is easily accessible by the road running through the valley and sits in a quiet location away from busy towns. Visitors should note that this mountain area experiences unpredictable weather that can change quickly.

Arthur Schnitzler's connection to the Thalhof ran through Olga Waissnix, the owner's wife, with whom he had a relationship from 1886 until her death in 1897. The hotel also hosted Peter Altenberg, and Sigmund Freud is said to have worked on Die Traumdeutung during his stays here.
