Stadtkino, Movie theater in Central Vienna, Austria
Stadtkino is located at Schwarzenbergplatz 7-8 in Vienna's third district and is a small single-screen cinema with green walls and red seats. The theater holds around 394 seats and presents a varied program of art films and cinema festivals.
The building opened in 1916 as Kammerlichtspiele and operated as a cinema for decades. After World War II, architect Robert Kortas oversaw renovations, and it reopened in 1981 under the new name Stadtkino.
The cinema presents films from around the world and regularly organizes retrospectives and special film series. Visitors come here to watch works that are not shown in larger multiplex theaters.
The cinema is easily accessible by several tram and bus lines that stop at Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna's third district. The small theater can fill up quickly, especially during popular films or festival screenings.
The cinema maintains a close relationship with the Viennale Film Festival and often screens films selected for the festival. This connection makes it an important venue for film culture in Vienna.
