Stadtpfarrkirche, Parish church in Wels, Austria
Stadtpfarrkirche is a parish church in Wels with three naves and a Baroque west portal. The tower is topped with an onion dome dating from the 18th century.
The building was documented as early as 888 and was transformed from a chapel to a Romanesque basilica in the 13th century. Later it received Gothic modifications.
The church holds marble sarcophagi of the Polheim noble family, brought here after the Minorite monastery closed in 1785. These tombs reflect the building's connection to local aristocratic history.
The church is located at Pfarrgasse 27 in Wels and offers wheelchair accessibility. Visitors can move through the interior without difficulty.
A notable feature is the baptistery in the western section of the northern aisle, which contains a Lourdes grotto with a statue of Mary. Many visitors overlook this detail.
