Stadtpfarrkirche Steyr, Catholic parish church in Steyr, Austria

Stadtpfarrkirche Steyr is a Gothic parish church with a distinctive tower and three interior aisles organized under vaulted ceilings. Stone columns run through the space to support the structure and create a sense of height and order.

A church existed here by around 1100 and was documented by name in 1275; it was damaged in the town fire of 1303. In 1443 the Viennese master Hans Puchsbaum was commissioned to rebuild it, and Laurenz Spenning vaulted the choir and added the tower from 1456. In 1522, before the nave was finished, fire spread from the town bath and destroyed the roof, altars, windows and bells.

The church is dedicated to Saint Giles and Saint Coloman. Its interior was reworked in the Gothic Revival under Adalbert Stifter, who as provincial monument curator promoted the removal of most Baroque furnishings; the white and yellow wall colouring of the 19th century was renewed in the 2009–2015 interior restoration.

The Bruckner monument in front of the church dates from 1898 and was the first monument ever erected to the composer; Victor Tilgner made the bust. Removed during the Second World War, it was put back in September 1945. A plaque on the Old Rectory, where Bruckner spent summers from 1884, recalls his work there.
