Neues Schloss

Neues Schloss in Horn is a Renaissance structure from 1672 situated next to the Old Castle, with plain facades and straightforward geometric design. The building displays functional architecture without elaborate ornamentation or decorative elements.

The Old Castle received its first written mention in 1223 as the seat of a noble family named after the location. The newer structure was built centuries later in the 17th century as a separate complex.

The castle serves as a venue for performances and cultural events that draw people from the surrounding area. This ongoing use keeps the location active as a gathering place in the region.

The castle is in private ownership managed by a family, so visits typically require prior arrangement. Contacting the owners in advance is recommended to plan any visit or tour of the grounds.

Inside the castle lies a narrow passage leading to the Graselkerker cell, a space linked to the outlaw Johann Georg Grasel. Local accounts suggest he was held there during a period when authorities pursued him.
