Castel Gartenau, Medieval castle in Hallein, Austria

The castle stands on the western slope of Gutratsberg mountain, encompassed by agricultural buildings arranged in a horseshoe formation around a rectangular courtyard.

First documented in 1339, the castle underwent transformation into a residence around 1400 under Rudolf Trauner, the steward of Glanegg.

The Panichner family, prominent salt traders, left their mark with a marble coat of arms from 1495 displayed above the eastern entrance portal.

Located at Gutrathbergweg 8 in Hallein, the castle remains private property and requires respect for residents' privacy during exterior viewing.

The cement production initiated by Adolf von Berndt at Gutratsberg continues since 1864 under the management of the Gebrüder Leube family.
