Schloss Mauer, Radstadt

Schloss Mauer is a three-story stone residence with a hipped roof and two surviving southern towers, sitting at the northeastern edge of Radstadt's center. The building's massive construction and distinctive towers make it a notable presence in the town's layout.

The site dates back to the 14th century when it served as the seat of Chunradus de Maur. Later, the Graf zu Schernberg family carried out major renovations during the 16th century.

The building reflects how medieval strongholds transformed into comfortable homes as the nobility's lifestyle evolved. This shift appears today in the mix of thick stone walls and the residential features that define the structure.

The castle remains in private hands and cannot be visited from inside. You can view it from the surrounding streets and appreciate its exterior architecture from the outside.

A major fire in 1865 destroyed two of the original four defensive towers and permanently changed the building's appearance. This fire event still shapes what visitors see today.
