Martinskirche Deutsch Schützen

Martinskirche Deutsch Schützen is a church in Deutsch Schützen-Eisenberg featuring Romanesque architecture with a Gothic choir. The building has an apse with five-eighths closure and is supported by buttresses.

The church was built on the foundations of an earlier Romanesque structure discovered during excavations in 1970 and 1971. Archaeological findings also reveal the presence of a Roman cemetery on this site.

The church carries marks of its past that remain visible today. A memorial plaque honors those who were forced to gather here during the Second World War.

The church sits about 800 meters from the town center and is easily reached on foot. Access to the building is generally open since it serves as a protected cultural monument.

A bell from the first half of the 13th century that originally belonged to the church is now preserved in the Pfundner collection in Vienna. The object shows the craftsmanship and importance this church held in earlier times.
