Schloss Mittertrixen

Schloss Mittertrixen is a two-story castle with arcaded courtyards and architectural features from late Gothic and Baroque periods. The structure has a square floor plan and contains preserved interior details spanning multiple eras of construction.

The current building was constructed around 1770 when Count Leopold Christallnigg commissioned his residence on this site. An earlier medieval fortress occupied the location before this transformation, with its ruins still visible on a wooded hill nearby.

The castle displays design elements from different periods in its rooms, reflecting the artistic tastes of those who shaped it over time. Visitors can see how the spaces combine practical living areas with decorative details that show what mattered to its inhabitants.

The property remains in private ownership, so visitors can only view it from outside and should respect property boundaries. The surrounding gardens and visible remains of the earlier castle can be observed from publicly accessible areas nearby.

A large garden surrounded by natural stone walls extends south from the main building, creating a distinct space apart from the architecture. Visitors often overlook this expansive garden, though it forms an important part of the overall property.
