Schloss Zeillern, Heritage castle in Zeillern, Austria

Schloss Zeillern is a Renaissance castle situated on an island surrounded by water features and moats. The structure displays multiple towers and architectural elements accumulated through different historical periods.

The land was granted to Niederaltaich Monastery by King Ludwig the German in 863. A fortified structure was established here around 1052 and gradually developed into the castle that stands today.

The castle hosts music education programs and serves as a venue for regional events that draw people together. It plays a role in the cultural life of the area, where visitors gather for performances and training activities.

The castle reopened in late November 2024 with 62 hotel rooms and a restaurant area after a renovation costing around 8.4 million euros. A new event hall for 250 people and new training and rehearsal rooms were added. The building is run as a Schloss hotel and music education centre; the Lower Austrian Wind Music Association has used it as a training centre since 1988.

The northwest corner was demolished in the 19th or 20th century, leaving the four-winged courtyard open; from outside you can see into the courtyard and the arcade walkway in the east wing. The arcades on the upper floor were walled up in the second half of the 19th century.
