Schloss Edla, Protected castle in Amstetten, Austria

Schloss Edla is a two-story castle in Amstetten featuring round-arched windows, rectangular openings, and a hipped roof set within a large park in the city's northwestern area. An adjacent former granary with distinctive slit windows and early 1800s brickwork stands nearby.

Sylvester Allinger built the castle in 1534 as a new residence after leaving Freisitz Amstetten, and it changed hands several times before the city of Amstetten acquired it in 1938.

The Urschitz weapons collection was shown here before it moved to Schloss Ulmerfeld, and the building later housed a music school. Since 2016 the municipality has been looking for a new use for the castle, which is under renovation.

The castle is undergoing restoration work to improve its accessibility and structural condition. Visitors should check ahead to confirm which areas are open and accessible during maintenance.

The ground-floor corridor still shows the remains of a groin vault with ridges, a ceiling form from the building's older core. The castle was altered several times after its 16th-century origins, and the adjacent former granary, with hipped roof and slit windows, has a facade from around 1800.
