Schloss Edla

Schloss Edla is a two-story castle in Amstetten featuring round-arched windows, rectangular openings, and a hipped roof set within a large park in the city's northwestern area. An adjacent former granary with distinctive slit windows and early 1800s brickwork stands nearby.

Sylvester Allinger built the castle in 1534 as a new residence after leaving Freisitz Amstetten, and it changed hands several times before the city of Amstetten acquired it in 1938.

The castle once served as a center for local learning and arts, hosting a weapons collection and a music school that shaped the community's cultural life.

The castle is undergoing restoration work to improve its accessibility and structural condition. Visitors should check ahead to confirm which areas are open and accessible during maintenance.

The ground floor contains remnants of a groin-vaulted ceiling, revealing layers of construction spanning different eras. This architectural detail shows how the building was modified and rebuilt over centuries.
