Johann-Luger-Haus

The Johann-Luger House is a protected building at Marktplatz in Dornbirn featuring a corner tower with a curved roof and a sun symbol displayed above the balcony at the gable. Today the ground floor holds a cafe, while the upper floors contain offices and a law practice.

The structure began as a barn for another house and was converted into an inn in the 17th century, which was named after the sun symbol painted above the balcony. That painted sun remains visible today and gives a hint about its former purpose.

The building blends Art Nouveau with National Romantic design elements that were popular in the region around 1900. This mix of styles shapes how the structure looks and reflects the local building traditions of that era.

The building sits centrally at Marktplatz and is easy to reach on foot, with its facade clearly visible from the street. The cafe on the ground floor is accessible at street level, while the upper floors are reached by stairs.

The building underwent major reconstruction after a fire in 1987, yet its original appearance was preserved throughout the restoration. This careful rebuilding allows visitors today to see the historical architecture despite the modern uses inside.
