Handalm

Handalm is a mountain summit near 1850 meters in the Koralpe region, featuring a small plateau with rock formations surrounded by forest. The peak offers open views across the surrounding mountains once you reach the top.

The region was connected to nearby villages by a forest railway operating through the 1950s that served this mountainous area. This rail line was once the main transport route for people and materials moving through the mountains.

The Wolfstein memorial in the northwest tells a story from the area's past that hikers stumble upon during their visit. The location reflects how people once lived alongside nature in this mountain region.

Multiple hiking paths lead to the summit, including the European long-distance path E6 and routes part of the Styrian regional trail network. The paths vary in length and difficulty, so you can pick one that fits your fitness level and available time.

The summit hosts thirteen wind turbines installed since 2017 that generate power for thousands of households across the region. This installation shows how mountain landscapes today serve dual purposes for both recreation and renewable energy production.
