Schloss Neu-Wartenburg, Baroque castle in Timelkam, Austria.
Schloss Neu-Wartenburg is a baroque castle in Timelkam with an octagonal central pavilion rising over two floors and surrounded by symmetrical wings. These wings enclose a courtyard, creating the formal layout typical of baroque design from that era.
Built between 1730 and 1732 for Johann Albert Graf Saint-Julien-Wallsee by architect Anton Erhard Martinelli, it replaced an older structure on the site. A fire in 1940 destroyed the central dome, which was reconstructed in the early 1970s.
The grounds show features of Austrian baroque design, particularly in the gardens that blend formal and landscape styles from different periods. Visitors can observe how structured garden elements sit alongside more natural plantings from later centuries.
The castle remains in private ownership and is not open to the public, though it can be viewed from the outside. It is located in Timelkam in Upper Austria, reachable by car or regional transport.
The Strachwitz family has owned the castle since 1973 and maintains it as a private residence. It remains one of the few functioning baroque manor houses in the region still inhabited by descendants of its original owners.
