Kreuzstadl Rechnitz, Memorial museum in Rechnitz, Austria.

Kreuzstadl Rechnitz is a building with a cross-shaped layout and solid stone masonry walls located near the edge of Rechnitz. Its distinctive brick corners create a recognizable form that makes it stand out from typical structures in the area.

The building is linked to a massacre that occurred on March 24-25, 1945, involving 180 Hungarian Jewish forced laborers. Local NSDAP members committed this act, which represents one of the darkest moments in the area's past.

The site serves as a place where people come to remember an event that profoundly changed Rechnitz and its community. Visitors can reflect on the documented accounts and educational materials that help explain what happened during those dark days.

The site is open twenty-four hours daily throughout the year with no restrictions on visits. This continuous availability means you can come at any time that suits you for personal reflection.

Despite numerous archaeological excavations and investigations over many decades, the mass grave of the victims has never been found. This ongoing uncertainty makes the memorial a place where the victims remain, in a sense, still missing.
