Construction of the castle began in 1290 as a minor noble residence, with Hans Liechtenecker documented as the property owner in 1346.
The castle museum displays regional artifacts and historical exhibits that document the development of the Mürz Valley through different periods.
Visitors can access the ruins via a 30-minute hiking trail that starts behind the train station in Sankt Barbara or through the Scheibgraben forest road.
The castle includes the Roßstall, a preserved hall available for private events, maintaining its connection to contemporary community activities.
