Saint Joseph Church

Saint Joseph Church in Hüttschlag is a church building that extends 38 meters in length and 12 meters in width, featuring a four-bay nave covered by a barrel vault with transverse arches. The floor plan shows a clear Baroque structure with regular proportions that divide the nave at set intervals.

Construction of this church began in 1679, replacing a wooden chapel that served miners working in copper and sulfur ore extraction. The building's emergence was tied directly to the mining activity that shaped the local community.

The interior displays late Baroque figures of Christ and disciples, along with stucco medallions from the original construction period that visitors can observe throughout the space.

The building maintains an open-door policy, allowing visitors to access the interior at any time during the day and night. You can plan your visit according to your own schedule since the church is accessible around the clock.

The western tower functions as the main entrance, guiding visitors through a cross-vaulted hall before they reach the main worship area. This sequence of spaces creates a gradual transition from outside to inside.
