Ansitz, ehem. Kastell Festetics

Ansitz Kastell Festetics is a former castle in Gerersdorf-Sulz featuring a striking columned facade with six round columns topped by Doric capitals and a mansard roof. The complex includes multiple building sections, including a single-story loggia with square columns and a separate pavilion wing.

The estate was built during the Vormärz period for Countess Judith Festetics von Tolna and was originally part of a thermal spa complex. Operations ended with World War II, after which the site lost its function as a spa facility.

The building shows the shift from fortified structures to residential estates with classical elements of Austrian nobility homes. This architectural blend reflects the lifestyle of the upper classes in the 19th century.

The estate sits at 238 meters elevation and is accessed by a 120-meter approach road. The property spans extensive grounds covering several hectares, allowing visitors to explore the entire complex with its various building sections.

A single-story loggia with square columns leads to a pavilion wing that once served as the entrance to the thermal baths. This architectural connection reveals how the residential area and spa facilities were originally interconnected.
