Pfarrkirche Kasten bei Böheimkirchen, Medieval parish church in Kasten bei Böheimkirchen, Austria.
Pfarrkirche Kasten bei Böheimkirchen is a Gothic structure standing on elevated ground at the northern edge of the village with a substantial north tower. The complex includes a walled cemetery featuring rectangular niches and defensive openings that face toward the village square.
First recorded in 1248 as a branch of Böheimkirchen parish church, it became an independent parish in 1265 under the administration of St. Pölten monastery. This early medieval foundation shaped its architectural character from the beginning.
The church is dedicated to Saint Mauritius, a choice reflected in its interior design. The high altar from 1906 is flanked by statues of Saints Peter and Paul that give the space its character.
The elevated location makes it a clear landmark when walking through the village and aids in finding your way. The walled cemetery is visible from the perimeter, and you can observe the defensive features that speak to how this complex was used historically.
The organ was installed in 1981 by Gregor Hradetzky with 13 registers housed in a neo-Gothic case from 1885. The case itself predates the current mechanism, revealing how the instrument has been updated while maintaining its historic shell.
