The Parish Church of St. Lawrence in Japons is a parish church with cemetery built in Baroque style featuring Gothic details in the choir section. An eastern tower dominates the exterior, and the entire complex is surrounded by a substantial stone wall.

The church originated around 1100 as a subsidiary chapel and came under the administration of Geras monastery by the mid-12th century. This monastic connection shaped the religious and social development of the village for centuries afterward.

The high altar is a marbled wooden aedicula with a columned structure and broken pediment, carrying white-painted statues of Saints John, Augustine, Norbert and Sebastian from around 1750, with God the Father flanked by angels in the upper section. The two side altars hold oil paintings by Jakob Zeiller (?) dated 1738: Anna teaching Mary to read on the left, Joseph with the Child on the right.

The church stands on high ground and is visible from a distance across the market town of Japons. A long wall encloses both the church and the cemetery; the baroque parish house lies west of the church on steeply falling ground. The building was restored in 1968/1969.

The church's two bells were cast by Johann Georg Scheichel in 1761, as recorded on the bells themselves.
