Unsere Liebe Frau Mariä Heimsuchung

Unsere Liebe Frau Mariä Heimsuchung is a church that brings together different architectural styles from various periods into one structure. The original Romanesque nave was transformed with baroque elements, while a gothic choir and tower form the building's most striking features.

The church first appears in written records from 1194, marking the beginning of its documented history in the region. A century later, it became part of a larger parish arrangement when it was incorporated into the St. Georgenberg monastery in 1265.

A throne Madonna statue from the early 16th century holds an important place in the church's interior and draws the attention of visitors. This carved figure represents the kind of religious art that defined the period and reminds us of the church's role as a place for artistic expression.

The church is located at the eastern end of Kolsass's main square, making it easy to find when exploring the town. A cemetery with distinctive Gothic buttresses surrounds the building and helps orient visitors within the village setting.

The roof structure above the vault contains preserved wooden beam attachments from the original Romanesque building, hidden from regular view. These hidden elements reveal how the church was modified over time while keeping traces of its oldest construction methods intact.
