Unterleiten

Unterleiten is a hermitage located at 1,389 meters (4,557 feet) in the Tyrolean Alps, sitting among towering peaks. The site comprises a small chapel and living quarters adapted to this high-altitude mountain setting.

The hermitage was established during the settlement period of the valley in the 11th century when Bavarian colonists moved into the region. This era of expansion also shaped the religious structures and spiritual practices that followed in the area.

From the hermitage, three major mountain groups are visible in different directions: the Villgraten Mountains to the south, the Venediger Group to the north, and the Rieserferner Group to the west. This position offers an exceptional vantage point for viewing the diversity of alpine terrain across the region.
